Burundi, a landlocked east African country was among the last African countries to record cases of coronavirus. Infact, it remains the only African country that was still having football matches despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Observer thought that will change when Burundi recorded it’s first case of covid-19 two weeks ago, but their football authority refused to suspend matches saying it had introduced measures to protect players against the virus.
But now, the Burundi Football Federation has announced the suspension of all local matches. The federation said after analysing the competition it had seen that it was still possible to achieve the May 30 deadline to submit finalists for international competitions.
It further said it was re-arranging the calendar and would resume local competition before the deadline.
The country currently has five confirmed cases of the virus.
