Van Niekerk Vows To Go Under 43s

The world 400m record holder and Olympics Champion South Africa Wayne Van Niekerk who was pleased for shifting of Olympics till next year has vowed to be the first man to run 400m inside 43s. The 27 years sprinter made this known on Wednesday on his twitter.

“I don’t even want to debate that, I want to break my record again. Be the first one to go sub 43 and that’s it.” van Niekerk wrote on his twitter page on Wednesday.

The Cape Town born 27 years old rugby player turned sprinter is coach by his grand mum Anna ‘Tannie Ans’ Botha. The marketing graduate from University of Free State had triple interesting occurrence in 2017. First, he won World Athletics 400m title in August. Then secondly, he torn his anterior cruciate knee ligament while playing celebrity rugby match on October 7. Thirdly, he married to Chesney Campbell on October 29.

A prematured born Van, had surgery at the Stead Man clinic in Colorado. Later went for Physiotherapy Rehab across US, Qatar and South Africa to fix the medial and lateral tears of the meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament injury he sustained.

First man to have run sub-10s (9.94s), sub- 20s (19.84s), sub-44s (43.03s). He also had the best in 300m in 30.81s.

In his struggle to come back, he has ran some impressive time this year. The last was 10.10s before the lockdown.
