The World Athletics governing body announced today of postponement of World Half Marathon which was set to take place in Gdynia, Poland because of the spread of coronavirus internationally. It has now been postponed from March 29 to October 17.
“It’s with regret that we have agreed with the mayor of Gdynia and the organisers of the World Athletics Half Marathon Championship Gdynia 2020 (29 March) to postpone this event until October this year, due to the ongoing uncertainty created by the spread of new coronavirus internationally”, World Athletics said in a statement.
In another breath, the Paris Marathon Organiser also announced yesterday of postponement of the iconic road race from April 15 to October 18.
“In order to avoid late cancellation that would penalize the participants, we have in agreement with the Paris mayor’s office, decided to postpone the Paris Marathon to October 18”, Amaury Sports Organisation (ASO) said in a statement.
