IAAF U-18:South Africa In Flying Start As Nigerian Athletes Deserted

The first day of IAAF World U-18 Championship in Nairobi{Kasarani}, Kenya produces some exciting athletics finest despite rain that almost mar the opening day. The South Africa has again showed that they are the new home of the sprints. In the final of men 100m decided today, South Africa Tshenolo Lema upsets his country man  Retshidisitswe Mlenga to take the first South Africa 100m title of any age in 10.57s to Mlenda 10.61s. Tyreke Wilson of Jamaica took third in 10.65s.

But Nigeria athletes completely deserted the competition despite earlier registered for it. The registered athletes which could not start are: Gershon Omubo{100m}, Knowledge Omovoh{400m female}, Uwemedine Akpa Abasiono{400m female}, Nsikak Francis Okon{400m male} and Rosemary Chukwuma{100m female}. It is not clear whether the desertion was due to Nigeria Open Trial schedue to start tommorow or none availability of consituted Nigeria Athletics board.
