Nigeria Para Powerlift Team who flown out quietly into Manchester few days ago has returned to their dominant winning way at 2021 World Para Powerlifting World Cup currently going on.
Nigeria team waste no time by amashing three gold medals on the opening day and left other athletes in a surprise.
Nigerian Jonah Ben first blazed the winning trait by clinching victory in the women’s 41-kilogrammes category when she recorded a winning lift of 100kg.
Ukrainian Maryna Kopiika was second with 90kg and Britain’s Zoe Newson third with 88kg.
Nigeria’s Latifat Tijani then claimed victory in the women’s up to 45kg division with 95kg.
The silver medal was won by Poland’s Justyna Kozdryk who lifted 90kg, while Kazakhstan’s Gulim Kurmanbayeva clinched bronze with 80kg.
Ukraine’s Paralympic champion Lidiia Soloviova came out on top in the women’s up to 50kg category with 105kg, while two home weightlifters battled it out for the other medals.
Olivia Broome captured silver with 100kg and Charlotte McGuiness secured bronze on 74kg.
Paralympic gold medallist Yakubu Adesokan clinched Nigeria’s third gold of the day with a superb lift of 140kg in the men’s up to 49kg division.
Japan’s Tetsuo Nishizaki was second on 138kg and Poland’s Slawomir Szymanski third on 132kg.
