The twenty seven-year-old Elias Diaz surprised himself on Saturday (20) at Bogota meet. Diaz took no time to get into rhythm as he smashed 31 years old 64.64m Colombia national record of David Castrillon to throw 65.45m. It was a jubilation galore for the young man.
But in the long jump men, the 21 years old, Arnovis de Jesus Dalmero showed why everyone is tipping him to be the next athletics face of Colombia. Just after a win in 100m with 10.32s, Arnovis determined to break long jump record. Already sure of his form to eclipse 22 years old 7.96m national long jump record of Lewis Asprilla.
Arnovis was in ecstatic after he jumped 8.34m only to be denied by 3.6 m/s wind. His other attempt can only yield a legal 7.89m.
