The fastest indoor 800m this season and the second fastest ever in history, Elliot Giles has tactical withdraw from European Indoor Championship due to start in six days time. The move is to fancy his chances for Olympics medal.
But the British team has been strengthen by more six athletes including in-form high jumper Morgan Lake who was added to the squad after clearing an impressive 1.96m in Belgrade.
Her performance, just 1cm short of her personal best, puts the 23-year-old third in the 2021 European standings.
Also joining Great Britain’s team are Jazmin Sawyers (long jump), Amelia Stricker (shot put), Emily Borthwick (high jump), Joel Khan (high jump) and Charlie Myers (pole vault).
The team includes 2018 World Indoor 60m hurdles champion Andrew Pozzi and 2019 European Indoor silver medallist Holly Bradshaw, but major names such as Dina Asher-Smith, Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Laura Muir are absent.
The four-day event begins in the Polish city of Torun on Thursday 4 March.
