Former Latvian Javelin World Record Holder Passed Away

Twice javelin world record holder and four times European Champion Latvian Janis Lusishas has passed away.

The former Olympic javelin champion Lusishas died at the age of 80 from cancer, the country’s athletics federation said Wednesday.

He was inducted into IAAF Hall of Fame in 2014.

Jelgava born Lusis, competed four times in Olympics for USSR; where he won gold at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, four years after earning bronze at the 1964 Games in Tokyo. He claimed a silver medal in Munich in 1972.
