Early morning on Saturday’s athletics meet at Athletics Gauteng North League Meeting in small town of Tshwaner (SA) threw up unsurprising result. The 2018 Africa Athletics triple jump silver medalist and 2019 All Africa Game triple jump bronze medalist, surprised herself to jumped out of her skin on Saturday to set a new South Africa triple jump record in 14.02m leap.
Erasing the former record of 12.89m which was set in 2012 by Patient Ntshingile in Potchefstroom. The 23 years old athlete of coach Renilwe Aphane, now surpassing her personal best of 13.65m set in 2018 in Sasolburg.
Chabangu the under graduate of University of Johannesburg had these to say after the event when she was interviewed by Tukssport, “I’m absolutely shocked. It’s is an Olympic year, the goal is to go big but I did not expect to do so today”.
Aleck Skhosana, the president of Athletics South Africa, said ” this is beautiful! We are very proud and happy of the achievement by Zinzi. We congratulate her and her coach. This comes at the current time when all attention is on the Olympics Game in Japan”.
