Tunis capital of Tunisia witnessed the scintilating display of African table tennis heavyweight in 2020 ITTF-Africa Top 16 Cup yesterday. In the group stage for men, Olajide Omotayo and Aruna Quadri qualify for the quarter final. But in the female, only Offiong Edem made it to the quarter final while Fatimo Bello lost two matches to miss out.
In the quarter final, Aruna beat number 8 seed Kolou Dodji Fanny of Togo. But got a scare in the semi final when he defeated his arch rival Egyptian Omar Assar who eliminated Olajide Omotayo in the quarter final. Head to head of Aruna and Assad was 3-3 before yesterday. But Aruna triumphed narrowly 5-11, 6-11, 11-4, 14-12, 7-11, 11-3, 12-10 to progressed to final.
In the final, which will come up later today Aruna Quadri will face Egyptian Ahmed Al Saleh while in the female, Nigeria Offiong Edem will also face Egyptian number one Dina Meshref.
