Jamaica Sport minister Olivia Grange announced that her administration will begin to provide from next month a $20,000 weekly grant (to be paid monthly) to athletes who have qualified or who are on the verge of advancing to the Olympics and Paralympic Games which is to be held in Tokyo Japan this year.
She made the clarification on Sunday during the unveiling ceremony for the statue of Asafa Powell at Independent park.
Grange further said that the funds will go toward expenses that will assist in their preparation for the summer games including coaching, training, physiotherapy and others requirement. She added that the Jamaica Athletes Insurance Plan will be available to aids those who are in need of medical treatment.
