The nine Olympics champion, eleven World champion and thriple World record holder Usain Bolt has for the first time in his athletics career dump his favourite event, 200m. The same event that shot him to limelight even as a junior before stepping up to 100m. The athletics legend has finally shown a measure of timidity as a result of his unconfident form despite posted 9.95s win in Monaco.
Bolt senses defeat for the first time. He feared racing against a World record holder which he has not done before; talk less of facing one when he’s not in-form especially in 200m he has not even run this year.
A battle against the quatermiller will be too risky for him. These are the guys that scared him away from 200m; Van Wayde Nierkerk of South Africa who is 400m World record holder and has run faster than Bolt in the 100m{9.94s} and also 19.84s in the 200m this season. While Isaac Makwala has run 43.84s in 400m this season and he’s the 2017 World leader in 200m with 19.77s. Yohan Blake has also showed flashes of his old self by clocking 19.97s in 200m and 9.90s in the 100m.
