Switzerland’s Lausanne city of canton of Vaud known for its francophone accent had its balmy gentle breezes disrupted today by the firework of beautiful athletism display inside the magnificent stadium hosting the Athletics Diamond league. All eyes were on Van who was running the 400m for the first time in Europe this year after breaking the 400m world record at the Rio Olympics. The 400m world record holder Van Wayde Niekrk did not disappoint by easily breaking the meet record of 43.66s to 43.62s. He was followed by two Boswana Baboliki Thebe-44.02 and Isaac Makwala-44.02s.
In the 100m men, Justin Gatlin showed class by beating Akani again making it twice in two days. Gatlin ran 9.96s to second place Ben Meite of Ivory Coast 9.98s and Akani Simbine of South Africa finished in 9.99s with Kim Collins finishing last in what look like injury. In 200m female, Marie Ta Lou of Ivory Coast nearly upset Dafne Schippers but managed to come second by setting new Ivory Coast 200m record to 22.16s. Dafne ran 22.10s.
